I followed structured lessons for different guitar techniques, played old-timey guitar arcade games, and learned along with songs on the screen. But, due to the nature of the challenge I was able to make adjustments, improve my technique and eventually became better at playing. The first week of the challenge was tough, I couldn’t hit the notes right, I couldn’t make the chord shapes right, I was struggling. Over the following two months, I played an hour each night to satisfy the parameters of the challenge. An online tracking tool called, the Rocksmith 60-Day Challenge is made available as a companion piece for each user. The game’s creator, UbiSoft, developed a great tool to record user play-time and keep them on track with their progress. The intention was to give me a progressive approach to learning the physical side of guitar playing. As my playing improved, the game automatically gave me more notes and filled in riffs and phrases to finish out the song. What I was given, was a general structure, the backbone of the song. I wasn’t given the entire song’s transcription upfront. I could open just about any song and play along with it. After a few short moments, the game loaded and I was ready to rock. I plugged one end of Rocksmith’s proprietary cable into the Xbox and the other end into my guitar. With much anticipation, I dropped the disc into the drive of my freshly unwrapped console. This method may require to re-adapt your approach to the mini-game, as it could throw you slightly off at first: the advantage is that (for instance) if you're playing the A note on your E string, when you're required to switch back to E you can simply keep picking, after quickly muting the note, while staying on the same string. With my Christmas money in hand I rushed to the store to pick up an Xbox and the latest copy of Rocksmith. You can also play more notes on one single string, for instance you can also play the D note on the 10th fret of the E lower string, but that may erode some of the advantage of this approach for a few players: having only two "alternatives" (open string/5th fret on any string, and 4th on the G string for B), with the 5th fret as a quick and easy "anchor point" is the real bonus. If you play on bass - emulated or real - it would basically require you to alternate between 3 strings at most: E open string 5th fret of E string (A) as an alternative to the open A string 5th fret of the A string (=D) or open D string 5th fret of the D string (G) as an alternative to the open G string.

It could make things slightly easier for those struggling when skipping strings, especially when the game speeds up significantly. on the lower strings, as long as you play the right notes (for instance the 5th fret on lower E string for A the fifth fret of the A string for D and so forth). The reason being that the game will still register (as it should!) your A, D, G etc. Something fairly obvious that nonetheless should be pointed out is that you can limit yourself to a smaller number of strings to play every note (E, A, D, etc.). This is my firs guide and English isn't my native language, so all feedback is welcome!įirst of all, check the other solution, written from a different player, for a more comprehensive and detailed guide to the achievement! At a certain point you will fail because you can't pick fast enough. Try getting a multplier of x8, x9 or x10 before trying to get to 10 000 000.įocus on accuracy, you cannot miss a hurdle or it will be almost impossible to get 10 000 000 points because the game gets faster, and clean string skipping. Every 5 completed missions will give you a multiplier. It will fall after a couple of seconds and give you a huge boost.ĭon't try to reach the 10 000 000 in one go. Slow down your picking an position your runner underneath the pack. But you should try catching the bonus items as much as possible, because they're huge point boosts with a x10 multiplier. You lose the multiplier when hitting a hurdle. When you have to choose between jumping a hurdle or catching a bonus item, choose for jumping the hurdle to get a bonus multiplier. Use the same method for catching the golden bonus items.

To jump a hurdle you have to mute the string you're playing and time it quite well. If you play too fast from the beginning your runner will be too close to the edge of the screen. Start slowly so you have time to see the hurdles and bonus items coming.

The goal of Hurtlin' Hurdles is to pick a certain string quite fast (tremolo picking), so use up and down strokes.
